John Norberg will be the guest speaker at the May 12, 5 p.m., meeting of Cherokee Village Historical Society, at Thunderbird Recreation Center. John is well known as an areawide ambassador with his “Tell Them John Norberg Sent You” social media campaign that introduces and highlights local businesses. He also volunteers his time with several other community organizations such as Cherokee Village Tourist Information & Welcome Center, Village Pride, Cherokee Village Fire Department, the annual Thanksgiving dinner for Quad Cities residents, Pie Day 5K, and the Arkansas Pie Festival.

As a Sharp County Master Gardener, John is also a contributing author to Avenues magazine. He writes the monthly ‘Gardening in the Ozarks’ articles, and that’s what he’ll be talking about with CVHS attendees. Native plant species that grow well given the conditions here in Arkansas (Chink! Darn, another rock…) are the easiest to grow and maintain. They require less water, and help prevent erosion. Some native plants tend to be more resistant to pests and diseases, which means you’ll need fewer chemicals or other treatments to keep them healthy. Not only are they beautiful, but these important plant species provide nectar, pollen, and seeds that serve as food for native butterflies, insects, birds and other animals.
