A Cherokee Village man charged with rape who had been arrested earlier in the month on Feb. 9, was arrested a second time Feb. 22 and booked into the Sharp County Detention Center now facing two additional counts of rape.

According to an affidavit for warrant of arrest for 45-year-old Charles Edward Slater, he is now facing four counts of rape, a class Y felony.

Two charges stemming from a series of incidents last recalled in January of 2019 and an additional two counts stemming from an incident in December of 2023.

On Feb. 6, Cherokee Village Police were contacted by a woman who reported the victim had disclosed being molested by Slater.

An initial report was taken by Investigator John Hutchins and the incident was reported to the Arkansas Crimes Against Children Hotline.

On Feb. 8, a forensic interview with the victim and her mother took place at the Child Advocacy Center in Batesville where the victim answered questions disclosing details about two separate instances of sexual molestation.

The victim said each violation had taken place when her mother was out of town, after the victim had showered .

The victim stated the most recent assault occurred on Christmas Eve of 2023 when Slater entered the bathroom, forcing the victim to perform oral sex on him while he assaulted the victim.

The victim said the abuse had taken place every three to five months, for more than four years.

Another alleged victim of Slaters was spoken to who had reported an assault approximately six years ago but at the time, Slater claimed he did not recall the incident due to “voluntary gross intoxication.”

Slater is being held in the Sharp County Detention Center. Bond for Slater this time, has been set at $250,000 with a court date of April 1.
