Santa’s Whiskers – a vintage recipe from the midwest

  • 1 cup oleo [butter]
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 TB milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped red + green cherries
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans
  • 3/4 cup flaked coconut
  1. Cream oleo and sugar, blending in milk and vanilla.
  2. Stir in flour, candied cherries, and nuts.
  3. Form into 2 rolls, each 2 inches in diameter and 8 inches long.
  4. Roll in coconut. Wrap and chill several hours or overnight’
  5. Slice 1/4 inch thick, place on ungreased cookie sheet.
  6. Bake 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until edges are golden.

Makes about 5 dozen
