According to Chief Deputy Charley Melton, on the morning of February 14 Deputy Evan Jones was dispatched to and address on Corinth Road for a reported domestic violence incident.

Upon Deputy Jones arrival he observed several spots of dried blood on the stones on the walkway and steps of the porch to the house. While talking with the persons inside the residence it was learned that Joseph Copes, age 45 of Mountain Home, had been staying with his girlfriend in a small building on the property.

Jones went to the small building where he made contact with Cope’s girlfriend. When she opened the door, Jones observed that she had several injuries including her lower left eye lid was partially severed and folded down onto her cheek. She also had blood about her face and neck.

Joseph Copes was charged with battery 2nd degree, a class “c” felony. He is scheduled to appear in the Izard County Circuit Court on February 23.

He also had a failure to appear warrant out of the Izard County District Court. He is scheduled to appear in in the Izard County District Court on March 4 on this warrant.
