Charges of aggravated assault and battery in the third degree has been filed against Kenneth Robert Babcock, 39, of Oxford after he assaulted a female with a baseball bat.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the charges stem from an incident Sept. 14 deputies were dispatched to a residence on Finley Road in Oxford.

Prior to arriving on scene, Investigator Tyler Webb made contact with a male subject later identified as Babcock.

While Webb was exiting his vehicle to speak to the subject, Babcock stated β€œIt’s me, I am the one you’re trying to take to jail.”

When asked if anyone was hurt at the residence, Babcock said β€œI don’t think she’s hurt too bad, I only hit her with the bat once.”

Babcock was placed under arrest and Webb continued to the residence to render aid to the victim.

Joining other officers at the scene, witnesses and the victim told officers Babcock had been asked to leave and a verbal argument broke out. Babcock then struck the female victim in the back side of the head with a punch and then took a baseball bat and hit her in the back of the head with a bat.

Babcock was taken to the Izard County Detention Center and the victim to the hospital in Calico Rock for treatment.
