An Izard County pair face a multitude of charges after a man and woman entered into an argument, both discharged firearms and caused damage to respective vehicles.

According to an affidavit for warrant of arrest for 27-year-old Jessica Moore and 38-year-old Steven Napier, on Sept. 8, deputies in Izard County were dispatched to Horseshoe Bend for a report of a domestic altercation involving firearms.

When authorities arrived on scene, they spoke to Moore who stated Napier had struck Moore and shot at her.

Moore explained Napier had come home and an argument ensued. Moore stated she knocked over Napier’s motorcycle at which point Napier got a baseball bat from the back of his truck and began to hit Moore’s van with it.

Moore stated Napier then went to his truck and stated he was getting a gun; at which time she went to her van and also retrieved a gun.

Moore sated Napier and she struggled for each other’s guns before Napier’s gun discharged followed by her own gun discharging.

She noted neither herself nor Napier had pointed the guns at one another.

Moore said eventually, she was able to get hold of Napier’s gun and ran inside the house locking the door. She then said Napier took the bat and broke into the home before deputies arrived.

In speaking with Napier, authorities were told he had left the home around 7:30 p.m. to go see his child and returned home after dark. When he arrived, he stated he and Moore entered into an argument and Moore pushed his bike over.

Napier said he then went to his truck and grabbed a bat striking Moore’s van several times. He said the two struggled over the bat before he threw it in the back yard at which time, he stated Moore went to her vehicle to get a gun, so he went to his truck to get one as well.

The two then wrestled to take away the others firearm and Moore’s gun discharged followed by his own. He stated neither pointed a firearm at the other.

Napier said he dropped the magazine from his gun and Moore took both guns inside the home during which time Napier called the Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities then retrieved the firearms from inside the home and while on scene were informed there were four children in the home but had not been harmed.

Deputies then contacted the on-call DHS worker and spoke to an adult female who was in the home with the children at the time of the altercation who stated none of the children had been harmed and had been taken to a back bedroom of the residence when the altercation began.

Both Napier and Moore were treated for minor injuries and transported to the Izard County Sheriff’s Department.

Both have been charged with four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, a class D felony; one count of aggravated assault on a family or household member a class D felony and domestic battering in the third degree, a class A misdemeanor.
