An Izard County man faces a number of charges including manufacturing of a controlled substance, a class B felony after an incident Sept. 8.

According to an affidavit for warrant of arrest for 50-year-old David Eric Mitchell, on Sept. 8 Ash Flat police entered into a pursuit with a suspect around 2 a.m., who fled from city limits and traveled to the Horseshoe Bend area in Izard County.

The suspect’s vehicle experienced mechanical failure and he fled on foot near Parkway CT in Horseshoe bend.

The suspect was able to evade law enforcement during the foot pursuit, however, officers observed multiple marijuana plants located in the back yard of a residence the suspect fled through.

Fulton County Narcotics Investigator Blair Ables was contacted and advised of the plants found during the pursuit and traveled to the address.

Ables spoke to the homeowner identified as Mitchell who was then detained. At approximately 8 a.m., investigators with the 16th District Judicial Drug Task Force and Fulton County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant at Mitchell’s residence.

Items seized include 69 marijuana plants, grow lights, plant drying equipment, fertilizer and two large tubs containing multiple large bags filled with a green leafy substance.

Also on the property were two firearms.

The green leafy substance was tested and the results showed positive for marijuana. A set of digital scales was used to weight the product which weighted greater than four ounces but less than 25 pounds.

As a result, Mitchell was charged with manufacturing a controlled substance schedule VI greater than four ounces but less than 25 pounds, a class B felony; possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver, a class C felony; simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, a class Y felony and felon in possession of a firearm, a class D felony.

Bond for Mitchell was set at $25,000.
