Chip & Nut Bars. Recipe from the kitchen of Louise Moletor. This recipe was purchased in a collection at an estate sale and shared with us by Sandy Jones on Recipes – Treasured, Vintage or New, and I’m bringing it to you here. The best recipes are on worn, handwritten recipe cards.
- 1/3 cup shortening, melted
- 1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 1/4 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup chocolate chips
- 3/4 cup slivered almonds or chopped walnuts
Melt the shortening and cool. Mix in sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Blend flour, baking powder together then add and mix in. Stir in 1/2 cup chips and 1/2 cup nutmeats. Spread evenly in a 13 x 9 x 2-inch greased pan. Sprinkle remaining chips and nuts on top. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 25-30 minutes.
