The Williford Library is kicking off their summer reading program, June 13 through July 18 with a pizza party to take place July 25 to celebrate the accomplishments of its readers.
According to Bernadine Hull, the program is geared toward encouraging children to read during the summer.
“Reading is fun. You can use your imagination to visit new places, spend time with loved ones and even share the stories with a friend,” Hull said.
Hull said the reading program will take place daily, however; she noted the library hopes by holding it daily, it will benefit parents of children who utilize the Highland School District Food Truck.
“We are a location for distribution of the Highland Food Truck and it will be here each Tuesday from11 until 12 noon. They are providing free lunches for children under the age of 18,” Hull said.
When asked how the summer reading program works, Hull explained the reading assignments will be based on age appropriateness.
“The goal is a minimum of three age-appropriate books. Once they’ve read the book, they will tell me or a helper about the book. We will mark off the amount of books and after they have completed their third book, they will receive an invitation to the pizza party,” Hull said. “The Friends of the Williford Library are hosting the party and we will also have additional prizes to give away.”
The Williford Library is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., each day.
