Illustrated by Paul O. Zelinsky

I loved this book! I think a first or second grader would too! Even a preschooler would love the action in this book. This book is the winner of:

A Caldecott Honor Book
An ALA Notable Book
A Time magazine Best Book of the Year
A New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Book of the Year
Winner of the Boston Globe/Horn Book Award
A Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year

This book is about a girl born in the backwoods of Tennessee and how she became known as the Swamp Angel and it has something to do with a big black bear. Angelica Longrider, a.k.a. Swamp Angel, and the town folk arrange for a bear hunt because the big black bear that is known as Thundering Tarnation, is a real nuisance to this community. You will find out just how Angelica dealt with Thundering Tarnation and what happened to the town folk.

It’s a tall tale that kinda reminds you of Paul Bunyon.

Illustrations! Beautiful! Paul O. Zelinsky does a beautiful job, some say it’s not his best, but I love them!
