Search efforts and rescue efforts for the small engine aircraft that crashed near the Sharp and Fulton County Line Dec. 26 near the Slick Rock/ 9 Mile Ridge area.

The crash occurred Sunday evening and search and rescue teams with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department, Sharp County Search and Rescue Team and others are assisting law enforcement.

At the time of the crash, Sharp County Sheriff Mark Counts said areas of dense fog made the search efforts more challenging.

One witness who has not been named told authorities they had spotted the plane flying low and was believed to be seen clipping trees as it neared the ground.

The plane is believed to have been travelling from the Memphis area with two occupants, however; no names, flight path or details of the type of plane have been released at this time.

The search was brought to a pause Sunday evening and will resume at 6 a.m. Dec. 27.
