According to Ozark Gateway Tourist Council’s Executive Director Cathy Drew, the council stands by the communities in the eight county Ozark Gateway region.
“We’re hoping to emphasize the importance of helping our communities that were devastated by the storms in March and April. Let them know we’re behind them and pushing forward. They’ve all been through so much devastation this spring.. It seems like no part of the region was left untouched,” Drew said. “There are still plenty of beautiful areas to enjoy and those affected areas will be back to how they once were. It is just going to take a little time to get them in order.”
Drew said this year’s event is more than just a banquet, it is also the Cave City Come Back party.
“In the wake of the devastating March 14 tornadoes that impacted Cave City and seven of our counties, this gathering as about more than tradition; it’s about community, resilience and supporting each other,” Drew said.
In addition to awards presentations, this year’s speaker will be Dalaney Thomas, Director of Tourism for Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism and will provide helpful information to businesses in the region.
“I am sure she will have important data for us to let us know how tourism is going across the state and give us ideas of things we can do to better promote our area and also learn what they offer to help businesses learn about ways Arkansas Tourism can help them promote their businesses.”
The meal will be catered by Bailey’s Family Restaurant.
