After two years, it is finally time for the Ozark Gateway Tourist Council Annual Leo Rainey Tourism Appreciation Banquet. This year’s event will occur at the Main Street Loft above the Independence County Library in Batesville at 5:30 pm.

“The regional banquet honors the late Leo Rainey for his long-time support and contributions to tourism and its development in our region and state,” said Cathy Drew, executive director.

The keynote speaker will be Kim Williams, Arkansas Travel Writer. She will be discussing important information about the 2024 Solar Eclipse that the Ozark Gateway Region will be in the center of totality. Also speaking will be Nicholas Bertucci, author of “Rolling Through Afghanistan” and owner of Bertucci Country Cabin in Williford.

Other awards to be given out that night will be the Wilson Powell Media Award in honor of the late Mr. Powell’s journalism work in promoting tourism over many years. The award honors an individual or entity for its work in advancing tourism in our area. The region’s highest honor, the Tom Biggs Award, is given annually to an outstanding contributor to our area’s tourism contribution in the past year. The late Mr. Biggs was a pioneer in Ozark Gateway’s history through his work in obtaining memberships in the association that helped the region build a firm foundation in its continuing work of tourism promotion.
