May 15-21, 2022, is National Police week. Observance was established by Presoident John F. Kennedy on October 1,1962, after Congress approved the establishment on October 1, 1961, of Peace Officers Memorial Day to be held each May 15 to honor the Federal, State, and municipal officers killed or disabled as a result of their service. Police Week is the surrounding week. Events such as candlelight vigils, weath laying ceremonites and Blue masses to remember those lost in service take place. Police Week honors police men and women in service to communies across the land.
