An Izard County woman is facing multiple felony charges after assaulting a police officer after breaking free from her restraints.

According to a warrant for arrest for Lena Crystal Cone, 42, Sargent Mike Smith was dispatched to Judge Ashley Road in regard to an intoxicated female causing a disturbance.

When Smith arrived, he noted two garage doors, one of which had been smashed through with a vehicle.

As Smith was about to enter the garage, he heard a female voice yelling from the back yard.

He could hear a clanging sound and glass shattering. As he rounded the corner of the home, he saw Cone walking through the opening of a door she had just shattered.

Cone then reportedly began to move aggressively through the shattered opening in the door toward a resident of the home.

The officer moved to restrain Cone who attempted to pull away, but Smith was able to place her in restraints.

Cone became angry and asked why she had been restrained.

Smith explained it was for the safety of all involved and because of her disorderly behavior.

Cone then began yelling at the individual in the home making accusations she had been cheated on.

She also told Smith he had no business in her home.

At this time, a second deputy arrived on scene and Cone was escorted through the home in placed in the care and custody of Deputy Brassfield and placed in the rear of the patrol unit.

Officers returned to the home to continue their investigation and a few moments later, noticed the rear passenger door was open and Cone was no longer in the unit.

Dispatch was notified and other officers dispatched to the seen to canvas the area.

Making note of a wooded area near the home, the officers searched and found Cone laying face up in a small creek.

The officers helped her to sit up and she then began frantically trying to escape her restraints.

The restraints were removed temporarily and secured a second time with Cone’s hands in front of her.

An ambulance was called to the residence, however; Cone refused medical treatment and told the officers to “take her to jail”.

Cone then became uncooperative and dropped to her knees. Officers were able to load her into the rear of a patrol unit and started to transport her to the jail. During transport, Cone attempted to open the door of the vehicle and roll down the window.

When told to stop, Cone cussed the officer.

Once at the jail, Smith parked in the Sally Port with the doors closed after entry. Smith and jailers then opened the back door to the unit at which time Cone said she was not exiting the vehicle.

Smith advised she could exit or would be removed to which Cone responded, “try it”.

As Smith began to remove Cone from the unit, Cone slipped her left hand out of the restraints and pulled an arm back into the vehicle.

Cone continued to actively resist Smith’s attempts to remove her from the unit and was able to pull her from the vehicle but when her feet touched the ground, she became combative punching and kicking.

Cone successfully landed a few blows before Smith pulled his tazer and stated he would taze Cone if she did not stop.

Cone then took another swing and was tazed. As she continued to fight, she was tazed a second and third time after which she became more complaint.

Her restraints were re-secured; however, she still refused to cooperate. With the assistance of a jailer, Smith and the jailer then assisted Cone to a cell.

During the altercation, Smith sustained minor injuries and his cell phone was damaged.

Cone was charged with aggravated assault, a class D felony; battery in the second degree, a class D felony; resisting arrest, a class A misdemeanor; disorderly conduct, a class C misdemeanor; criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor and third-degree escape, a class A misdemeanor.
