A man in Izard County is facing charges after discharging a firearm and threatening the lives of those around him.

According to an affidavit filed in Izard County, 55-year-old Steven Ray Conyers is facing three counts of terroristic threatening in the first degree, a class D felony following in incident March 13.

Just after 1:15 p.m., Deputy Steve Davidson along with deputies Sean Tomlinson, and Investigators Tyler Webb and Geoffery Watts were dispatched to Main Street in Mount Pleasant for a report of an intoxicated male threatening people with a gun.

The victims stated they had left the scene for safety and described the location where Conyers had exited the residence. Deputies were informed Conyers had shot the gun twice prior to officers arrival.

Conyers was located and detained and during a post-Miranda interview told authorities he was unsure why the cops had been called and that he had been drinking and had shot toward a squirrel but was unaware the sheriff’s department had been called.

While speaking with Conyers, it was clear he was intoxicated as his speech was slurred and he couldn’t maintain his balance. When asked about marks on his arm consistent with falling, Conyers said he falls a lot.

In speaking with the victims, Tomlinson was informed two of three victims had arrived at Conyers’ residence earlier in the day to check on the third victim.

When the two arrived they saw Conyers outside intoxicated and had seen him sall several times. The then entered the home to speak to the third victim and Conyers soon followed.

He became belligerent and physically pushed one of the victims before entering his bedroom to go lie down.

One of the victims entered the bedroom to speak with Conyers and express her disappointment with his behavior. The three victims then left he residence and Conyers exited with a firearm in his hand and threatened to shoot the victims if they did not leave.

While leaving, Conyers allegedly fired the weapon twice in the direction of the vehicle the victims were driving away in.

Investigator Webb obtained consent to search the home and retrieved two firearms from the home which were consistent with the description the victims had provided.

Bond for Conyers was set at $20,000.
