The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory currently in effect with a Winter Storm Warning for northern Arkansas and southern Missouri to effect Feb. 18 from 6 a.m., through Feb. 19.
According to Eric Green with the National Weather Service, up to seven inches of snow is expected for the tri-county area.
“Mainly in those areas (Sharp, Izard and Fulton Counties) we are looking at snow, but there may be some mixed precipitation including some light freezing rain and sleet. Through most of the day as the colder air starts to move in, we’re looking at mainly snow,” Green said. “There is a band over northern Arkansas and especially into southern Missouri that will see higher amounts of snowfall, upwards of six to eight inches increasing beyond the Ozark Plateau.”
As the week progresses, Green said the cold temperatures will become deadly as temperatures Wednesday are forecast with highs in the mid 20s and lows near zero wit ha windchill as low as 10 below.
Unfortunately the winter precipitation will stick around as the remainder of the week, temperatures are expected to remain below freezing until Sunday Feb. 23, when the cold front will move out and temperatures will rise into the 50s and become more seasonable.
