The Spring River Gem & Mineral Club will meet Friday, May 6,  10 AM, at Thunderbird Center in Cherokee Village, AR.

We’ve all heard of “Indiana Jones.”  The SRGMC is pleased to have Archeologist Dr. Juliet Morrow, “Julianna Jones ”  present :  “Paleoindian Origin and Lifeways:  The Mysterious and Fascinating  Journey Ever Taken On in the History of Humans.”

The Paleoindian Period refers to a time 12,000  years ago at the end of the last Ice Age when humans first appeared in the archeological record in North America.  One of the original groups to enter what is now Canada and the United States was the Clovis culture.  They encountered and hunted many species of large, now extinct animals.

Dr. Morrow has conducted archeological investigations in Arkansas, Arizona, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Montana, New Mexico, Ohio, Mississippi and Washington.  Her primary excavations and research focuses on the Peopling of the New World / American Indian Origins and Early Paleoindian through Early Archaic period archeology, (circa 11,000 to 8,000 RCYBP.)

Dr. Morrow, a Professor at ASU Jonesboro, has presented to our club several times.  She  is currently the Station Archeologist at the Arkansas State University – Jonesboro  station of the Arkansas Archeological Survey, investigating archeological sites in Arkansas in co-ordination with landowners and the Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma.
