A deadly crash claimed the lives of two people and injured several others Aug. 16 near the Sharp/Lawrence County line.

According to a report from the Arkansas State Police, shortly before 6:30 a.m., the crash occurred involving four motor vehicles and claiming the lives of 30-year-old Kyle Robert Simmons of Hoxie and 30-year-old Anna Marie Swearinger of Rome GA.

The accident states the accident occurred when Simmons vehicle was traveling south on Highway 63 in a 2005 Cadillac and crossed the center line, striking the driver’s side mirror of a Jeep which was traveling north.

Simmons vehicle then struck a 2014 Freight-liner semi-truck driven by 41-year-old Stanley Celestin of Marietta, GA causing the semi to leave the roadway and crash into the woods.

A fourth vehicle, a 2020 Chevy driven by riven by 58-year-old William George McAllister of Memphis left the roadway and crashed into the woods.

Simmons was pronounced deceased at the scene and Swearinger later passed away at an area hospital due to injuries sustained during the crash.

McCallister sustained moderate injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment where he was later released.

According to witnesses of the accident, Simmions vehicle hit the semi head on and sent it airborne resulting in severe damage to the vehicle.

Traffic was at a standstill for approximately three hours and traffic was paused from Hoxie to Hardy will crews worked to clear the scene.
