An Izard County man, 38-year-old Jeremiah James Coffer is facing a multitude of sexually related felony charges for crimes against children according to documents filed June 17 at the Izard County Clerk’s Office.

Coffer faces one count of rape, a class Y felony; one count of sexual assault in the first degree, a class A felony and four counts of sexual assault in the second degree, a class B felony.

The charges stem from an investigation which began in April when the Izard County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Arkansas State Police Child Abuse Hotline of an alleged sexual assault.

Authorities partnered with the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division and made arrangements to interview a juvenile female regarding the possible assault.

The victim stated on April 11, Coffer touched the victim in inappropriate ways and forced her hand to touch him in such a way as to cause him to ejaculate.

The victim then told the authorities of more than six incidences of abuse which occurred between January of 2021 and April of this year.

One incident described an assault with which Coffer had used an electronic device on the victim. When gained written consent to search the home and the item was found in the place the victim said Coffer had pulled it from to assault her with.

On April 14, Coffer was contacted by investigators and an interview began, however; shortly after, Coffer’s defense council arrived and stopped the interview. Coffer was unaware his mother had hired an attorney for him.

Bond for Coffer was set at $300,000.
