Charges were filed against a Jonesboro woman and a Lake City woman in Sharp County Feb. 14 after drugs and other items of paraphernalia were found in their possession.

According to a report, Officer Casey Poulette imitated a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Irene Opp, 64 near Backbone Road.

During the stop, Poulette could smell an odor coming from the vehicle and asked Opp if there were other occupants in the vehicle as the window tint was too dark to see inside.

Opp then rolled down the windows revealing two additional females. One passenger of the vehicle, Beth Qualls,63, of Lake City had an active warrant for her arrest. The second female passenger was said to be mentally disabled.

A search of the females’ purses yielded 1.7 grams of suspected methamphetamine, five glass smoking devices, marijuana, THC vapes and a large sum of cash.

Opp stated she had used methamphetamine earlier in the evening. Qualls also admitting to using methamphetamine earlier in the evening.

Opp faces charges misdemeanor DWI-drugs, misdemeanor endangering the welfare of an incompetent person in the second degree, felony possession of a controlled substance and felony possession of drug paraphernalia.

Qualls has been charged with endangering the welfare of an incompetent person in the second degree and felony possession of a controlled substance and felony possession of drug paraphernalia.
