Well butter my biscuits, y’all! Have y’all heard about the rise of telemedicine and virtual healthcare services in rural Arkansas? Honey, let me tell you, it’s a game-changer for folks living out in the sticks.
See, in recent years, telemedicine and virtual healthcare services have become increasingly popular in rural Arkansas. Now, I know what you’re thinking: “What in tarnation is

telemedicine?” Well, let me break it down for you, darlin’. Telemedicine is when patients can connect with healthcare providers over the internet, so they don’t have to travel long distances to see a provider in person. It’s like having a doctor’s appointment from the comfort of your own living room!
And let me tell you, this is especially important in a state like Arkansas, where many folks live in rural areas with limited access to healthcare. With telemedicine and virtual healthcare services, patients can get the medical care they need without having to hit the dusty trail.
Now, don’t get me wrong, there are some challenges to adopting these services in rural areas. One of the biggest challenges is the lack of access to reliable internet and technology. But you know us Arkansans, we don’t give up without a fight!
Some healthcare providers in rural Arkansas are working to expand access to technology and internet services. For example, the Arkansas Rural Health Partnership (ARHP) partnered with a local internet provider, OzarksGo, to expand access to reliable internet in rural areas of the state. They even provided discounted internet service to eligible households in rural areas served by the ARHP’s healthcare providers. How ’bout that for southern hospitality?
Now, this partnership was especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic. I mean, nobody wants to be catching the virus on their way to the doctor’s office! The discounted internet service provided by OzarksGo allowed patients to receive medical care from the safety and comfort of their own homes. Bless their hearts!
All in all, telemedicine and virtual healthcare services are a great option for patients in rural Arkansas. They offer increased access to healthcare, reduced travel time and costs, and the ability to receive care from home. But we still got work to do, y’all. Healthcare providers and policymakers need to work together to make sure everyone, no matter where they live, has access to high-quality healthcare.
