After a two plus year hiatus, Souper Wednesday has made a comeback at the Hardy United Methodist Church and the ladies of the church would like to extend an invitation to the public to come and enjoy food and fellowship.

“We’re excited, we have it back and are introducing it on the third Wednesday of each month to get it started and running again,” said Pam Gunsten, with the Hardy United Methodist Women.

Souper Wednesday takes place at the church from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and features a variety of soups, breads, desserts, coffee and tea.

Gunsten said although it is presently the once monthly event, the ladies at the chruch are actively looking for ways to expand the program.

“We’re looking at other opportunites, not just a souper lunch Wednesday but also a need at nighttime for our children and familes that are working. We hope this will be a springboard for a number of activities down the road. We’re excited to bring it back and looking at different ways to engage the entire Spring River community in this wonderful event,” Gunsten said.

Discussion is also taking place for the potential to provide transporation and deliver to those unable to travel or who are homebound.

“That is something we’re discussing, we know there is a need an were in the process of adding that. At the time we don’t have a specific group that delivers to shut ins but we have identified that as a real need and looking to make that expansion down the road as well,” Gunsten said.

In the mean time, the community is invited and encouraged to attend the upcoming Souper Wednesday.

“It is open to everone to come, socalize, see members of the commuinty and enjoy an opportunity to be together and it is all free. If anyone wants to bring a dessert item they are wlecome to do so but the main thing is to reconnect and get back together with friends. Things we have missed these last three years through Covid. We’re excited from that standpoint,” Gunsten said. “If someone comes who has small children, we have high chairs. Lunch held in the fellowship hall at the United Methodist Chruch located at 102 east 4thstreet in hardy. Open to eveyone and if you havea favorite soup, please let that be known as well.”
