A Sharp County man landed behind bars with charges of sexual assault in the second degree, a class B felony.

According to documents filed May 12, the charges against 42-year-old Nicholas Fonda of Cave City stemmed from an incident Feb. 9 when Sharp County Detective Cody Bailey contacted Cave City Police Officer Adam Fitzsimmons regarding two runaway juvenile females who had been located at an area park.

Officer Fitzsimmons had brought the two children to the police department after a victim had made allegations of rape and physical abuse against Fonda.

The victim stated she had been sexually assaulted by Fonda on multiple occasions. Both juveniles were interviewed by the Child Advocacy Center of White County and the Child Advocacy Center of Independence County.

On March 17, Fitzimmons conducted a post Miranda interview with Fonda during which Fonda admitted to having the victim in his bedroom and had intended to and attempted to have intercourse with the child but was physically unable.
