Ruby-throated hummingbirds are some of the most beautiful birds to photographed in my opinion as well as one of the most challenging.

Being that they are migrators, it’s a shame that we don’t get to see their beauty year round. It’s always a treat when they show back up in the spring time.

A lot of people ask me how I’m able to get so close to hummingbirds. For one they handle people extremely well. Definitely not as scared as most other animals. And for two I spend a lot of time with them, hours sometimes. And lastly, I get up above them using an 8 foot step ladder place my camera 6 inches to a foot away and wait for them to show up at the feeder.

As long as I stand completely still they will not fly away. I never get tired of bringing unique, never-before-seen shots to the world. The comments and responses that I get are very humbling. There’s no better feeling than bringing joy to other peoples lives.
