Salem, Arkansas —  North Arkansas Electric Cooperative dedicated its new Galatia Substation and transmission line in the Norfork area Jan. 20.

The substation is energized and now serving 750 member accounts on 85 miles of distribution line that previously were served by the Norfork Substation.

“NAEC strives to deliver reliable, affordable and responsible electricity to our members,” CEO Mel Coleman said. “With the Norfork, Culp and Lone Rock areas having grown in recent years as far as load, this new substation gives us greater flexibility during normal operations and outage situations. We also built the substation so that it has capacity for future growth.”

The Galatia Substation project included a new 2.8-mile transmission line that connects the substation to a transmission line between the co-op’s Norfork and Pineville substations. Additional distribution lines will be built out of Galatia Substation in the coming months to divide the existing distribution system.

The co-op’s Operations and Engineering employees constructed the substation throughout the past eight months. Contractors built the transmission line.

Galatia is NAEC’s 30th substation. The co-op maintains 5,120 miles of line across portions of eight counties.

North Arkansas Electric Cooperative serves more than 38,700 active accounts throughout portions of eight counties. The cooperative’s headquarters is located in Salem, and full-service offices are located in Ash Flat and Mountain Home. For more information, visit naeci.com or call (870) 895-3221.
