With positive Rebel pride, I, Sandy Golden Murphy, announce my candidacy for the Highland School District Board of Education, position 1.
My husband Chuck and I have been highland rebels for over 50 years. Our children Chad and Ginger are Highland graduates, as well as our daughter in law Chris. Both of our grandson are currently students in the high school and middle school. We have a long, strong tradition of Rebel pride on both sides of our family, and I have always been a strong proponent of our extracurricular programs. FFA, the band and the sports programs hold a special place in my heart and always have.
When there was a vacancy on the board recently, I was asked to accept an appointment to fill the position. I had previously served on the board a number of years and was honored and excited to accept.
According to the website School Digger, Highland ranks 43rd of all 283 districts in the state. That means our district performs better than 83% of all Arkansas schools. And we have a graduation rate of 97%. Along with those successes, many innovative and exciting programs and services have been added in the last few years that the public needs to know about.
* HSD has a School-based Health Clinic, that includes Vision and Dental services
* Students who don’t have access to internet are provided a hotspot through our Connectivity resource
* All students eat breakfast and lunch at no cost to them
* Six mental health counselors are on staff
* Through the Backpack program over 140 bags are handed out each Friday
* There are seven dyslexia interventionist
* Capturing Kids Hearts is a character-based curriculum that addresses social and emotional learning in a relationship culture.

Because I have a vested interest in our educational system and because I support these positive changes and additions, I ask for your vote in the November election.
Early voting starts on the 7th and ends on the 13th, with the final voting on the 14th.
