The Sharp County Master Gardeners, a unique and active organization in Sharp County is recruiting members.

An online class will start Oct. 15 through which you can become a master gardener. Registration is $75 and must be sent to the Extension Office by7 Oct. 1.The training is online and is self-paced with a deadline to finish the class by mid-December.

John Norberg is a member of the Master Gardeners Club. When asked about a few of the projects carried out by the club, Norberg said the organization has projects in places one might not think.

“The group has been involved throughout the years on some projects around the area. Have you ever been to the library in Hardy? The garden to the left of the door and the pots in front of the doors is one of their (Master Gardeners) sanctioned projects. If you haven’t been there, you should make it a point to stop and check it out,” Norberg said. “They also put in and maintain the garden at the Ash Flat Library. This garden is a newer creation for the Club, and it is beautiful, yet simple…everything thought out and planned with an idea in mind.”

Over the years, the club has completed and maintained a multitude of projects from planting a memorial tree or mowing the library lawn to hosting plant sales.

In partnership with the Sharp County Extension Homemakers, the clubs helped to raise $20,000 to put air conditioning in the Exhibit Building at the Sharp County Fairgrounds.

“This fun group of people meet the second Wednesday of the month, at the Tohi Trail in Cherokee Village from about 9:30 in the morning to 10:30. We enjoy the comradery with like minded individuals looking to make the world a little bit brighter…one flower at a time,” Norberg said.
