The Ozark Acres Surburban Improvement District took an unexpected step forward toward dissolution during their regular session Aug.16.
Among the agenda items was the levy of assessments.
“We have done extensive research on the continuation of assessments. Assessments cannot legally be collected once the original amount has been collected and a SID does not have taxing authority,” stated SID Chair, Marcia Johnson. “While some properties may still owe a portion of the assessments, there are many others where the amount that could be levied is complete. In the Acres and at this point, I have determined that to move forward as a community, we need to implement the following course of action.”
In a good faith effort toward its residents, and to show its commitment to the prosperity of the Acres community the board voted to lower the levy amount from 10 percent to 8 percent for the 2023 year.
“I suggest this because we have families here struggling, due to inflation and also as a good faith effort on behalf of the board and recognition that this problem has existed for some time,” Johnson said. “This step will allow our community the next year to meet, discuss and make educated decisions that the majority of residents feel is the best path forward for Ozark Acres to prosper.”
During discussion, the options presented to the public included requesting volunteers and guidance on best practices to allow the Acres to become a city, be absorbed by the county and more.
A public meeting will be held Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. at the Ozark Acres Clubhouse for the residents and property owners to discuss ideas.
Other items addressed during the meeting included the resignation of David Delorge and the appointment of Krisellen Lang to fill the vacancy. At this time, two seats remain vacant on the board.
