As the Christmas approaches and treats, meals and memories are created, pet owners should be mindful about what they share with their pets while in the holiday spirit.
Although it can be hard to say no to your pet sometimes, sharing certain foods can land them at the veterinarian’s office or worse.
According to PetMD, fatty foods can cause pancreatitis and an upset stomach for your pets.
Raisins or grapes which may be hidden in fruit cake are toxic to dogs and cats and can lead to kidney failure; chocolate, sugar free candies or pastries, many of which contain a sugar substitute known as Xylitol can lead to low blood sugar levels and liver failure; items containing onions or garlic in any form; the bones from cooked meats such as turkey bones may splinter and can cause lacerations or blockage in the intestinal track.
Other foods include salt, dairy based items that may contain alcohol or other dairy items; caffeine, raw bread dough, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy or other buttery foods, nuts, pumpkin pie or citrus fruits.
Although this is not a complete list of items, these are the most popular items consumed during the holidays which can harm your pets.
