Izard County Sheriff Charlie Melton is warning residents of a new scam.
“We have been made aware of a scam call going around Izard County,” Melton said. “The caller identifies themselves as being from one of our local energy providers saying your bill has not been paid and your power will be shut off. The caller ask for the bill to be paid using an app or gift cards. One of the phone numbers used is 601-351-4400.”
If you receive a call like this, do not give any information or provide payment. If you are uncertain as to whether or not you have paid your utility bills. Call your energy provider directly on their customer service number that is located on your bill.
