A warrant for the arrest of a man from Louisiana has been filed in Fulton County Circuit Court after a check he wrote for the purchase of six horses returned to a local business.

According to the documents filed Feb. 11, on Dec. 14, 2024, Johnny Louis Payne II who lists an address in Port Allen LA, purchased the six horses from the Salem Horse Auction Inc., writing a personal check from the Navy Federal Credit Union.

The check was written for $12,700 and was returned showing insufficient funds Dec. 24, 2024.

At the time Payne wrote the check, a copy of his driver’s license was made and he was notified about the issue, but has not yet rendered payment.

As a result, Payne faces one felony count of writing a hot check, greater than $5,000 but less than $25,000, a class C felony.

Once apprehended, bond for Payne will be set at $20,000.
