A Hardy man is behind bars after allegedly stealing items and money from his land lord.
According to the report, filed March 7 in Sharp County Circuit Court, authorities were contacted regarding 57-year-old Charles Victor Munos after the victim discovered several checks were missing from her office.
Four checks, totaling $1,021 had been cashed at FNBC bank in Hardy. The check numbers corresponded with the missing checks from the victim’s office.
The victim said she was not aware of the theft of the checks and the forgery until she received bank statements.
On Feb. 21, Munos attempted to cash another forged check in the amount of $238 at the same FNBC branch but was denied by the bank.
Hardy Police Chief Scott Rose was dispatched and arrived on scene within a short time, however the suspect had left the location.
Rose was able to verify the suspect’s vehicle through a traffic camera pulling out of FNBC traveling eastbound on Highway 63 and matched the licenses plate to the vehicle, confirming it was Munos vehicle.
“We believe probable cause exists due to the fact Victor Munos forged the victims name in order to cash his own checks, and while creating the warrant for him, he tried again,” the report said.
As a result, Victor Munos has been charged with theft of property, credit or debit card, a class D felony and Forgery, a class C felony.
At press time, bond had not yet been set for Munos.
