Grant Hardin, the inmate who posed as a corrections officer in a makeshift uniform and escaped the North Central Unit of the Department of Corrections in Calico Rock May 25, was apprehended less than two miles from the prison June 7.
After weeks of searching authorities located Hardin, who was serving sentences for rape and murder, on Moccasin Creek.
Authorities had initially done a soft search of the area, but rising waters due to heavy rainfall prevented a throughout search of the area.
Border Patrol agents who had been called in to assist with the manhunt located Hardin who was then turned over to the Arkansas State Police.
Hardin was briefly transported back to the North Central Unit in Calico Rock where he was fingerprinted and given a physical assessment before being transported to the Varner Supermax unit in Gould.
Hardin will serve out the remainder of his initial sentences and any additional mandates as a result of his escape at the Varner Supermax unit.
Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders credited all the law enforcement agencies involved including the Izard County Sheriff’s Department, Arkansas State Police, Border Patrol and more in the successful retrieval of the inmate.
