Happy Mother’s Day Mom!
Her name is Bertha Mae Lovelace. She is my mom. She married my dad, Utah Everett, and they have three sons and twin daughters. I speak of her in present tense because when we die our body is what dies, however, our souls live on for eternity in one of two places. I know my mom is in heaven.
Mom, you made sure your kids had the chance to know Jesus. That was your most important role. It was your goal in life to see us all graduate High School and to someday know Jesus as our personal Savior. You made sure we were in church and Sunday School. You read to us and raised us to love others more than ourselves. Dad was an alcoholic and sadly did not give you the money you needed to provide for us. Most of his income was spent on beer and cigarettes. Mom, you took on extra jobs all the time and sacrificed your life for ours. You worked long, hard hours so the five of us had good clothes to wear and food to eat. After working all day, you would come home and cook for us. You cleaned houses for a living. You would also clean our house along with laundry and many other things a mom does. At 11 pm you would wake up and go and pick up dad from the Robin bar. I remember because I was 5 and I went with you. Dadwould be drunk, and the two of you would fight as I cried myself to sleep in my bed.
No child ever wants to see or hear their mom cry. We just don’t want you to ever be unhappy because we love you so much. We are all so indebted to you for the sacrifice of time and energy to raise us the best way you knew how.
As time passed and you got older, things changed. I will never forget the day you did not know me anymore. Dementia had set in, and you would call me someone else’s name. We smiled at the time, but it still hurt deep inside. But I still knew you, mom. You are so loved even today and always. I can’t wait until we meet again in heaven!
Happy Mother’s Day Mom. I love you so very much and I am so thankful you made sure I knew who Jesus was so I could meet Him someday. He too is my personal Savior mom. Tell Jesus I love Him and to take good care of you till I get there.
Your Son,
James Everett
