The Cherokee Village Fire Department and Auxiliary will be stationed near City Hall at Santee Drive, the bridge at Community Park, Carol’s Lakeview Restaurant, and at Casey’s convenience store on Monday, September 5th, 2022. They will be joining more than 250 fire departments who are raising funds across the country by “filling the boot” with donations to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) this Labor Day.  They are requesting that you drop by and donate.

Since 1954, firefighters across the country have collected critical funds in the community – one dollar at a time – as part of the Fill the Boot program to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The partnership between MDA and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) began when the IAFF signed a proclamation designating MDA as its charity of choice, vowing to continue raising awareness and funds to ensure effective treatments and therapies are found. The dollars raised through Fill the Boot fund MDA’s mission of empowering people living with neuromuscular disease to achieve their potential.

Members of the Cherokee Village Fire Department and Volunteer Auxiliary have participated in this annual fundraising effort since the early 1990s. In 2021, generous community support for their efforts resulted in a contribution of $2,634.94.

This year, firefighters will once again be stationed at key intersections in Cherokee Village near City Hall at Santee Drive, the bridge at Community Park, Carol’s Lakeview, and at Casey’s on Monday, September 5th. Find them there and let’s exceed last year’s figure…drop by and donate!
