The Peace Lutheran Church located at 4 Iroquois Drive in Cherokee Village will host an all you can eat chili diner Oct. 7 to benefit Safe Night Ministries.
It has been just weeks since Save Night Ministries, a domestic violence outreach organization in Sharp County opened its doors to a new domestic violence shelter, however; the organization has been serving victims of domestic violence for more than a year.
“We are advocates for domestic violence victims and their families and have been running our outreach since April of last year as well as our Thursday night support group meetings, however we’ve now opened a shelter. It opened Sept. 25 and we are now able to house victims and their children as they’re fleeing their abusers,” Jeana Carter said.
Carter said the newly opened shelter will allow the volunteers and the board of Safe Night Ministries to better serve victims who come for help.
“We’re very excited about that. Before we were unable to house them locally and would put them up in hotels temporarily until we could transport them to another area. Now there is a shelter in our area where we can take care of them and transition them out into healthy and a happy life.”
The all you can eat chili dinner will include chili, cornbread, drink and a dessert and may be eaten on location or takeout is also available.
The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages four to 12 and children three and under eat free.
