On Thursday, July 7, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Cherokee Elementary School (CES) administrators and kindergarten teachers will have a drop-in meet & greet event complete with a bounce house, popsicles, and popcorn on the lawn of the elementary school! This year’s event for incoming Kindergarten students will help ease the nerves and anxiety that these children may have as they begin their educational journeys through the Highland School District.

The newly-remodeled Cherokee Elementary School will open for the new school year in a couple of months, and hundreds of new and returning students will excitedly flood the hallways with smiles happy to be back in a place that they love. The meet & greet will be a good opportunity to give your child a familiarity edge.

If you haven’t yet registered your student for Kindergarten for the 22-23 school year, this is an excellent time to do so. If you have already registered, please come and meet your teacher, get to know classmates, play in the bounce house, grab a sweet treat, and pick up a goodie bag of activities that will help make your student’s first year of school a success.  All families in attendance will also be eligible to register for a great summer giveaway package. Kindergarten teachers can’t wait to meet their incoming learners and kick off the school year in a new and unique way!

Any student new to the district can register for the ’22-’23 school year any weekday at the following locations: Grades K-4 ~ Central Office; Grades 5-8 ~ Highland Middle School office; grades 9-12 ~ Highland High School office.  Students wishing to register for kindergarten must be 5 years of age by August 1.

All new students should bring a birth certificate, social security number, and shot records.  Those registering for kindergarten should also bring a completed physical form from their PCP (Primary care physician).  If you have any questions, please contact the appropriate building at (870) 856-3275.
