A Veterans Day ceremony will be held Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the American Veteran’s Memorial in Ash Flat on Nix Ridge Road.A welcome will be given by Richard Sackett, USA Ret. Commander and member of the American Legion Post #346.Following the presentation of the colors, invocation and pledge the speakers for the event will be Shawn and Billie Jo Suiters.
The public is encouraged to attend the event.
Additionally, the Cave City Middle School History Club will have a short Veterans Day program at 11:00 a.m. at the Cave City Veterans Monument, next to City Hall and the large “Welcome to Cave City” sign downtown. Contact sponsor Trish Turnbough at the school for more information.
Afterward, everyone is invited to the city park. Curly Tail Smokers BBQ will be set up from noon-6:00 p.m. Veterans’ meals will be provided. Meals are $10 each for the general public and include a pulled pork or shredded BBQ chicken sandwich, with sides. All proceeds, and any additional donations, will go to the Aaron James’ family. Aaron is a Cave City veteran of the Arkansas National Guard, who suffered extensive injuries in a work-related accident. Contact local veteran Bill Nesbitt for more information.
A representative from the Independence County Veterans Service Office will be on hand to answer veteran’s benefits questions. Cave City Pharmacy will be giving flu shots from noon-2:30 at the park.
The Salem VFW Post 9777 will hold a Veterans Day Parade Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Salem Square.
A luncheon will follow at the VFW post located at 105 Veterans Way in Salem.
The Horseshoe Bend American Legion Post #344 will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at Veterans Park on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.
The Izard County Consolidated choir will perform and Rep. Brandt Smith will be the speaker for the event.
In the event of poor weather conditions, the ceremony will be moved to the Music in the Mountains Theatre located in the Diamond B Mall.
