Circuit Judge Kevin King was a graduate of Highland High School in 1972, the University of Arkansas in 1976, and the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1978.  He served the counties of Sharp, Lawrence, Randolph, and Jackson counties as Circuit Judge of the Third Judicial District.  Judge King was always concerned about the welfare of students.  The Kevin King Memorial Scholarship was established to advance students through education.

The following students were selected as recipients for the 2024 school year:

Sharp County:

Mallory McEntire, a 2024 graduate of Highland High School, received a scholarship for $1000.  Mallory will work toward a Communication Disorders degree at Arkansas State University before attending medical school to eventually practice Audiology.

Kenzie McEntire, a 2024 graduate of Highland High School, plans to attend the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and major in business.  Kenzie then plans to attend the University of Arkansas School of Law.  Kenzie also received a scholarship for $1000.

Jessie Stauffer, a 2024 graduate of Cave City High School, received a scholarship for $1000. Jessie plans to attend Lyon College and pursue a degree in nursing.

Randolph County:
Lauren Anderson, a 2024 graduate of Pocahontas High School, received a scholarship for $1000.  Lauren plans to obtain a degree in nursing, then furthering her career to achieve her APRN and work in a hospital with pediatric patients.

Jackson County:  

Reece Kieffner, a 2024 graduate of Newport High School, received a scholarship for $1000.  Reece plans to attend Crowley’s Ridge College to obtain a degree in business administration.  He then plans to attend a trade school to become an electrician.

Halie Roberson, a 2024 graduate of Tuckerman High School, wants to begin her education at ASU Newport to obtain a degree as a Physical Therapy Assistant and then transfer to Arkansas State University in Jonesboro to complete a long-term goal of becoming a Physical Therapist.  Halie received a scholarship for $1000.

Lawrence County:
Vivica Smith, a 2024 graduate of Sloan-Hendrix High School, plans to attend Arkansas Tech University, where she plans to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology.  After graduating from Arkansas Tech University, she plans to attend graduate school and obtain a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree.  Vivica received a scholarship for $1000.

All scholarships may be renewed as long as students remain in school.  The Kevin King Memorial Golf Tournament has been established to support these scholarships.  This year approximately $11,000 waspresented to local students.  The KKMG Tournament was June 1 at the Cherokee Village South Golf Course to support these scholarships.  Follow us on Facebook at Kevin King Memorial Golf Tournament.
