After more than four decades of service to the community, one area non-profit will be disbanding.

According to the organization’s president, John Kunkel, United Way of North Central Arkansas (UWNCA) has served North Central Arkansas for 42 years.

“After the success of our Night of Impact, I was confident we could rebound and make a strong comeback to continue helping those in need,” Kunkel said. “However, we’ve faced challenges beyond what we can overcome. The shift in how businesses and individuals are choosing to make donations directly to organizations, combined with the demands of running a volunteer-based board, have proven unsustainable in today’s environment.”

Kunkel said the UWNCA will officially dissolve effective Dec. 31.

“In the coming weeks, we will allocate all remaining funds to our partner agencies to ensure the vital work they do can continue,” Kunkel said. “To our amazing nonprofit organizations: your dedication has touched countless lives, and we encourage businesses and individuals to keep supporting you directly in the future. This will allow 100 percent of the donated dollars to go to your organization.”

Kunkel also thanked the community for their support of the UWNCA.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported United Way of North Central Arkansas over the years. Your contributions have made a lasting difference. My heart aches as I write this, but I am also filled with gratitude for the impact we’ve been able to make together,” Kunkel said.
