Arkansans can now use their Mobile ID at more than 260 airports across the country. Travelers can use the Arkansas Mobile ID at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints in these 260 locations. It can be used in lieu of a physical license or ID.
The state of Arkansas has worked closely with TSA on this process, with testing completed last week. Arkansas announced the Mobile ID in March.
Anyone with an existing Arkansas license or ID can search and download “Arkansas Mobile ID” in the App Store or Google Play to obtain a Mobile ID at no cost. It is a contactless, highly secure, state approved credential that resides on a smartphone. It is simply a mobile version of an existing license or ID. It can be presented at participating venues and businesses as a valid form of ID, now including airports.
The Arkansas Mobile ID will be available in the Google and Samsung wallets by early Fall. The Apple wallet will follow. Prior to the wallets, the Mobile ID app may be presented directly to TSA.
“The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration is focused on streamlining and improving the services we provide Arkansans,” said Department Secretary Jim Hudson. “Using Mobile ID to board a flight will make travel easier for citizens. We encourage Arkansans who have not obtained their Mobile ID to take advantage of this innovative, free tool.”
More than 30,000 Arkansans now have a Mobile ID.
“We’re pleased to see this identity verification upgrade available to Arkansas travelers,” said Steven C. Baker, executive director of Clinton National Airport. “We look forward to the acceptance of this technology at all commercial airports across the U.S. Until such time, we encourage travelers to also carry their physical licenses.”
By using Mobile ID, TSA can also verify that an individual is ticketed for air travel that day, so the traveler does not need to show a boarding pass to the TSA officer.
