A man is facing felony charges in Fulton County after his strange behavior led law enforcement to take a closer look.
According to the affidavit for warrant of arrest for 57-year-old Dennis McClain filed March 24, on Feb. 3, several officers were patrolling Mammoth Spring two of them spotted a white Chevy pickup driving carelessly, failing to yield at the intersection of Hwy 9 and Hwy 63.
The Chevy, driven by McClain made a left turn into the Mammoth Spring State Park at which time McClain exited the vehicle and began circling it several times before walking away.
Due to his failure to yield, officers made contact with McClain who stated he did not have a driver’s license but did have an ID card.
When McClain went to retrieve the card from his vehicle, officers could see a container with blue tape holding a white powdery substance which McClain attempted to hide and a shotgun lying in the front seat of the truck.
McClain was detained and the container was further investigated. It was found to hold two small glass jars, one containing cocaine and the second methamphetamine.
Also found were two snort tubes and a plastic razor blade as well as a second firearm.
As a result, McClain was arrested and charged with simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, a class Y felony’ possession of methamphetamine with purpose to deliver and possession of cocaine with purpose to deliver, both class C felonies, two counts of possession of firearms by certain persons, class D felony; possession of drug paraphernalia, a class D felony and with a penalty enhancement for being a habitual offender having previously been convicted of four or more felonies.
His bond was set at $10,000.
