As I walked to my truck at Walmart, I scanned the ground looking for coins. Not because I need a couple of pennies but because I know my God’s name is on them. There it was, next to the shopping cart stalls, a very ugly penny that had been run over many times. I stooped down and rescued it. It was very rough to the touch and not as shiny as it was the day it was minted. Nevertheless, its value was still the same, one cent. I saw ‘In God We Trust’ on it. I value the name of God very highly. I don’t want his name on the ground in the wet and oily parking lot anywhere. His name is the name above all names. I don’t want his name walked on or driven over by vehicles. People may think I am nuts to pick up an old penny that has seen its day but that’s ok, I have my reasons.

Someday our bodies will be close to aging out of this world. It will be me with my cane or electric cart in the parking lot at Walmart. I hope someone looks out for me as I struggle to get to my car to put my groceries away. I will look pretty rough and maybe so old it could look as though I have been run over many times. I won’t be near as shiny as I was 70 years earlier. Nevertheless, my value will still be the same, a child of God. No one may know my name or remember who I was but God still knows me by name.

I want to encourage you to pause and help someone who is getting up in the years. That someone will be you someday and you will hope someone is looking out for you to help. Live a life of kindness and be the hands and feet of Jesus every chance He gives you.

Jim
