We will see a powerful system move through the southern Plains this weekend, bringing with it heavy rain and some potential for severe storms. Instability appears to be a big limiting factor, but if enough materializes, damaging winds and an isolated tornado will be possible.

Additionally, a stationary front draped over the Arkansas/Missouri border will help focus heavy rain over the next several days. By early next week, rainfall totals could reach 3 to 5 inches over extreme northern Arkansas with lesser amounts elsewhere in the state. At least localized flooding will be possible with the greatest flood threat over Missouri.

Bottom line: this is a good weekend to stay weather aware!
