Stubborn people get on my nerves because they never do what I want them to do!

I am glad I am not that way, ha!

God’s children can be stubborn; we are all set in our ways.

We want what we want when we want it, and we shall not be moved until we get what we want when we want it.

I watched my then 5-year-old grandson as he feverishly tried to take my smartwatch off my arm because he sees them as toys. When I told him, my watch was not a toy and explained how Mimi’s watch is a tool I use to do business with, his expression turned to disgust, why, because he did not get what he wanted when he wanted it.

The word ‘no’ did little to deter his continued attempts.

I finally decided to bring out the Big Guns— I told him I was calling Santa and letting him know how bad he was behaving.

My grandson immediately stopped what he was doing, looked up at me with furrowed brows, and asked, “You know Santa?”.

Well, I started it, I figured I had to finish it, so I said, “Yep, we went to High School together; we go way back.”

My little grandson cocks his head in deep thought and says to me, “it’s a long time until Christmas,” and begins trying to tear off my watch once more.

Is not that a perfect picture of how we can be so stubborn in wanting what we want that we make concessions for our bad behavior. We brush off the consequences of our actions because we think we will have plenty of time to change our ways before it is too late.

This encounter with my 5-year-old grandson reminded me of the parable (a story told that has spiritual implications) that Jesus taught about in Luke 12.

Jesus warned us about being greedy; He cautioned us that “life does not consist in an abundance of possessions” (Luke 12:15, NIV).

Jesus told His listeners the story of the rich man who stored up much wealth for himself, yet he had no clue that his very days were numbered and as of that night his soul would be required of him (Luke 12:20).

All too often, we become so enamored with the shiny thing’s life has to offer that we tend to forget there is a day coming for all of us that will be our last here on earth.

Eternity is a very long time. Who can measure it but God?

Jesus did not leave His listeners without an answer to the question of what we focus on instead of building up riches for ourselves here on earth.

In the following verses of Luke 12 where Jesus is teaching on greed, our Lord instructs us about worry and trusting God to provide for all our needs.

We do not have a Savior who does not understand our deepest desires; we have one who has the answers we all need.

I encourage you to pick up your bible and read or re-read Chapter 12 of Luke.

Let this teaching from the Master saturate your mind and receive it on a much deeper level.

We all have an expiration date, but only God knows what that date is; so why not live like the wise man and not the fool who did not consider this?

Let it not be said of us that we are stubborn people any longer.

Maya Angelou once said, "You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them." This statement resonates with me. My past experiences have made me a stronger person eager to use my story to inspire and help others see that regardless of who they are or where they have been, there is always hope and to know the ability to rise above circumstances lies within.
Each day, I strive to walk in faith and hope surrounded by my family and friends' love and encouragement. I am blessed to have a life full of experiences, some good, some bad, and my ambition is to use those experiences to enrich those around me. I am a local business owner and church Executive Assistant in Highland, Arkansas. I am a wife, mother, grandmother, and student.
My passion is to help those in need who are ready and willing to do the necessary work it takes to help themselves. Assisting individuals who have experienced trauma, loss, stress, grief, and various life changes are the drive behind attending Southwestern Assemblies of God University to obtain my associate degree in Human Services. I plan to further my education in this field by getting my bachelor's degree in behavioral health. I hope to use my experiences and knowledge to encourage, strengthen, and facilitate assistance to those who are in need.
I am also working alongside my husband in the community as an Automotive Collision Repair Facility owner. It has been a great privilege to assist my husband in pursuing his lifelong dream. We enjoy our work together, and it is an exciting experience for me to learn his field of expertise and engage with so many phenomenal people in our area.
I am a fun-loving individual who thrives on living life and pursuing dreams! I am an avid chess player, a lover of all things feline, and a big fan of essential oils! At the age of 50, I decided to return to school to earn my GED. Since then, I have become a member of Phi Theta Kappa and a Notary Public. I have completed credentials for ministry, became a certified grant writer, trained in hospital chaplaincy, and certified in Christ-Centered leadership. Additionally, I am a member of the North American Christian Social Workers Association (NACSW), where I have been trained in "The Role of Christian Faith and Spirituality in the Grieving Process" and "Suicide Prevention for Christians in Social Work." I am an active member of the Spring River Chamber of Commerce and the Spring River Car Club.
My faith is a huge part of my desire and passion for helping others. I strive to always be, as Christ, a light in this world and in the lives of others. In John 8:12, Jesus says, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life." I endeavor to help others see the light in the darkness.
