The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is the nation’s largest patriotic women’s service organization with more than 190,000 members in 3,000 chapters worldwide. DAR was the first heritage society to formally partner with America 250, the nationwide commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary in 2026 led by the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission. The public commemoration period began in 2020, culminates on July 4, 2026, and officially concludes in 2027.
Locally, the Strawberry River Chapter, DAR, was organized in 1979 in Horseshoe Bend and serves a three-county area in north–central rural Arkansas, where many families have deep generational ties to the nation’s founding. We believe there is no better way to honor America’s 250th birthday than by encouraging and assisting individuals in discovering their family histories and learning the roles their ancestors played in achieving American Independence.
One of the chapter’s America 250 projects will be a Genealogy Workshop on April 18. This will be open to the public to assist participants with research and to share resource aids that support continued exploration of family history. Instruction will focus on records connected to the Revolutionary era, helping attendees understand how Patriots, soldiers, and civilians contributed to the cause of liberty in 1776.
