The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) is warning Arkansans of a text scam that attempts to obtain personal financial information. The text, which is circulating in Arkansas and several other states, requests accurate account information so the state can deposit money. This is an effort to fraudulently access bank accounts. DFA encourages Arkansans to warn family and friends to ensure they are aware of this scam. Do not provide Social Security numbers, banking details or tax account credentials.

Avoid engaging this correspondence in any way. The messages may appear to come from a government agency or taxing authority but are in no way legitimate. They may suggest immediate action is required to obtain the money. DFA will not send you a text requesting sensitive or financial information.

DFA urges all taxpayers to remain cautious, verify the source of any communication before taking action, and rely only on official state and federal websites for tax information and services.

Below please find an example of a text circulating this week that attempts to steal personal and financial information.
