Nov. 2 is officially Souper Saturday throughout Sharp County.

The CALL in Sharp County will host its first annual fundraiser that day, selling a variety of homemade soups for $8 per quart to support children from our county in foster care.

Area churches from various denominations and spanning the length of the county have banded

together to host the event, making delicious soup available to all Sharp County residents.

Cave City First Assembly, Ash Flat Church of Christ, and Hardy United Methodist Church are all on board to support The CALL with this event.

Cave City First Assembly will serve as host in the most southern part of the county, making

quarts of soup available to residents of Cave City. Already, teens from Cave City have

participated by affixing labels to the 500 quarts of soup area churches are hoping to sell on

November 2.

Ash Flat Church of Christ representative Stephanie Studer expresses that her church is

“excited to be a part of this ministry in any way we can.” Teens with signs at the highway will

point the way to the homemade soup available under the church’s front awning.

In the north, Hardy United Methodist Church will make their soup available on Main Street in

downtown Hardy. Pam Gunston, coordinator for that location, reports, “We are so honored to

join other churches in Sharp County in working together to support The CALL and our Sharp

County children.”

The CALL is a statewide Christian non-profit that has recently launched its local affiliate here in

Sharp County. The CALL strives to mobilize the church in Arkansas to love children in foster

care with the extravagant love of Jesus. Sharp County has approximately 30 children in foster

care at any given time. However, the county only has 4 standard, licensed foster homes to

care for them. Because we have so few local foster homes, 20 of the children from Sharp

County are placed in homes outside our county.

Funds raised by Souper Saturday will directly impact the 30 children in foster care from our

county, providing tangible items such as clothing, beds, hygiene items, and more.

Additionally, funds are used to support recruiting efforts as The CALL strives to increase the number of local foster homes so that more children may stay in their home communities while in care.
