The Cherokee Village United Methodist Church will be hosting the return of the Secrets of Letty’s Kitchen, an authentic Italian dining experience Sept. 6 at the Cherokee Village United Methodist Church located at 21 Otter Drive from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
According to Glenna Adovasio, this is the second year the church has hosted the dinner, and the recipes used to make the meals have been passed down for generations.
“The Secrets of Letty’s Kitchen started with my brother Doug, who loved my mother-in-law’s Italian cooking. When I moved here and joined the church, he asked if I would do it for the United Methodist Men.” These are her recipes, and it was very well received last year. This year, we will bring back some of the old favorites and share some new ones as well.”
Adovasio said the menu will not be announced until the evening of, but those who purchase tickets and attend will be welcomed into a transformed atmosphere.
“This is a sit-down dinner. The atmosphere will be reminiscent of a traditional Italian restaurant, and you will be served. We are asking that the kiddos be left at home,” Adovasio said.
The cost for a ticket is $20 and the proceeds go to fund the church’s vast projects.
“Some of the things we do include our blessing box, free breakfast on Tuesdays and lunch on Thursdays. One of the more expensive projects we do is our warming center. During the winter, when temperatures are extremely cold, we open our doors and welcome people and their pets, allowing them to stay here 24/7. We cook three meals a day during the times when the shelter is open,” Adovasio said. “We also do Thanksgiving baskets and so the money we raise, helps with those projects.”
